About the temple
The Prasanna Rama Devara Devasthana located in Fort, Channapatna is said to have been built around 200 years ago by Regimentedar Rama Rao. This website is about the PrasannaRama Temple.
The idols of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita Devi, Lord Lakshmana, and Lord Hanuman are made of marble stone not commonly found in the south of India.
The statues are supposed to have been brought by
Regimentedar from Benares (Kashi).
In 2017, an expert in marble statues confirmed that the statues would have been brought from Benares or Varanasi (Kashi). The Rajasthan artisans , in those days, had shifted to Varanasi as the ruling class had patronised them.
In the year 1990-91, it was observed, that some plants were growing
on the Gopuram of the Garbhagudi and causing it to crack open and tilt. It was decided by the trustees to demolish and rebuild the temple, in spite of the tight finances. This happened stage by stage.
In the year 2015-16, the Gopuram was constructed and consecrated. The trustees then, took up the construction of the main Gopuram with beautiful statues Lord Rama, Goddess Sita Devi, Lord Lakshmana, and Lord Hanuman at the entrance. The Gopuram has Lord Varaha and Lord Narasimha on the sides.
A room with modern toilet and bathroom and also a big hall for teaching students were added in 2017.
The temple, now has a modern look with the old serenity maintained.
